From a young age, Andrew Grech was drawn to explore
his natural artistic talent particularly with
colours and textures. Grech’s formative
years were spent with mentor and master painter/designer,
George Szloboda. It was Szloboda’s skills
that helped lay a solid professional foundation
and crystallize Grech’s creative passion,
particularly for Australian landscape.
Grech grew up in his home town of Melbourne. His
creative career began in advertising and several
years later he was headhunted to join a well known
textile company. Here his contemporary style combined
with a vast knowledge of techniques quickly began
to establish a natural appeal amongst buyers.
For
the past decade Grech has established relationships
with the most renowned architects and interior
designers in Australia and internationally.
As a
well respected and professional artist, he has
been commissioned by numerous companies nationally
and around the world to supply pieces to complete
the aesthetics of iconic buildings and spaces.

These
include 5 star luxury hotels and resorts such as Sheraton,
Crown Towers, Rialto Towers, Intercontinental Hotels Group,
Hilton and the Aspinalls Casino (France) to name a few.
Qantas Airlines, Malaysian Stock Exchange, Cabrini Hospital
are amongst a diverse range of corporate clients.
The owner of the
Four Points Hotel in Geelong for example, was so impressed
by Grech’s talent that he exclusively commissioned him
to supply art to hang throughout the Hotel. Mark Sexton, the
hotels General Manager, says: “Andrew’s contemporary
style and vivid imagery is perfect for the hotel’s modern
design.” He further explains, 18 months ago he decided
to covert an unusual area in the hotel into a lounge room
for guests. “I briefed Andrew for the job, and he supplied
us with two large pieces which suit the space perfectly. His
interpretative skills are simply outstanding. His works seem
to transform the space into a showpiece and members of the
public are always commenting on how appealing they are and
the ambience created.”
Crown Entertainment Complex is another environment to which
Grech has contributed.
“Andrew was commissioned to supply several pieces for
Crown” explains Joe Angele, Crown Entertainment Complex’s
Design Director, “which hang in public spaces in the
complex including Number 8 restaurant and the Hotel’s
main entrance.”

“We constantly hear compliments
from guests and diners about Andrew’s works. Number
8 in particular allows patrons to relax and be mesmerized
by looking at one of his works over a drink or something to
eat. They help create just the right atmosphere and have no
doubt contributed to the restaurant’s success.”
Melbourne based
interior designer Estelle Bialek, has also recognized Grech’s
interpretive talent and has had a professional relationship
with him since the 1980’s when she sourced him to supply
paintings to hang for Cabrini Hospital, including public areas.
“Andrew is very skilled technically and has vast knowledge
of various painting techniques. I would consider Andrew’s
creativity and vision to be up there with our current well
known contemporary artists.” He has a way of bringing
and merging colours that reflect a classical sense of perfection.
Andrew Grech stands for Australian contemporary art at its
most accessible. Over the past decade his versatile gift for
Australian landscape, shape, form, and colour combined with
interpretive skills have transformed mere spaces into environments
of major appeal across the corporate arena as well as for
private collectors. His works exude a character which is distinctly
Australian with a growing recognition and deepening reputation
of distinction in this country and overseas.
